A couple extras I know about

I also have a few things I do that can yield you free stuff.

I bank with PNC Formally National City, and they have a points program for your debit card and such. I just redeemed my points for a $100 visa giftcard and 2-$25 Target gift cards.

Also on the web there is a web site www.swagbucks.com and if you use them to search for things on the web you can win swagbucks and then you can redeem those for things as well. I had been using it a while back and had gotten 97 swagbucks, I just started using it again and I am up to 118. You can get things like giftcards as well, or you can search using your favorite bands and you can also use the SB for special items in their store, like say you used Nickleback, you may be able to redeem your SB for a signed CD or a signed poster.

So these are just a few things that may be able to help you, if your bank doesn't have points, look for a bank that does, often times too banks will give you money when you switch to them and open up a checking account with direct deposit or things like that.

I like National City now PNC, the workers know me there and they are polite.

If you don't want to switch banks then try the swagbucks route, it takes a while to save up but it is a search engine just like google, plus you can win SB and get free stuff :) Who doesn't like FREE?

1-18-2010 update

Today was a quick run to the grocery store. Pick N Save had a 2 day sale flier and in the flier was mac and cheese (with card and coupon) for .39 a box. Paid 1.56, saved 3.04.

Last week the toys at my Target went 75%, so on my break I just had to check them out. I spent about 26 for 3 items. I figured out that all 3 would have been around 100 so I saved about 74 bucks.

Then Saturday we had a pair of pants to return that Paul had gotten for Christmas (that didn't fit) and he couldn't find one that did, so we used the credit to get some clothes for the kids. We ended up with 4 pairs of gloves, 2 scarves, 1 hat, 2 shirts for V, 1 pj pant for V, 1 pj pant for D, 1 zip sweatshirt for D, 1 pair of sweat pants for D, 1 pair of pj pants for J and 3 shirts for J. All of this would have been around $255 full price, but after the exchange and an extra $20 card that came with the original jeans, I spent $2.20. YEP TWO dollars and twenty cents. All of the clothes were half off and then half off that price.

Ok with that here is the savings as of 1-18:

Spent YTD: $450.37
Savings YTD: $634.62

We were so so lucky to have come across the savings at the clothing store, and we were lucky to have had that credit. But the kids always need more clothes and you can't beat a hat for 1.99 for a pair of nice gloves for 1.98 :)

1-6-10

Hi all!

I didn't post this yesterday but yesterday was Heart day, for anyone who knows me, yesterday 1-5 was the day my dad got his new heart. So yesterday was the 1 year mark from when he got it. I will never forget when he called me. He acted like it was just a routine call and then he said they have a heart for me and I am going in this afternoon. I was elated and scared all wrapped in one, but we had a good number day 01-05-09. We are so thankful for the gift that has been given to us, someone made a selfless decision and let their loved ones organs be donated to those in need. So my dad is here today living his life and we are so grateful.

Now onto savings.....Today I went to 2 grocery stores and 2 Walgreen's stores. Walgreen's--spent $15.79 saved $36.20
Piggly Wiggly--spent $10.98 saved .80--there were no coupons and it was a small trip.
Pick N Save--spent $103.32 saved $53.18

So at Walgreen's they had Reach total care (I think that is the name) toothbrushes that had a $2 coupon in the WAGS flier. So I paired that with the MQ from the paper that was B1G1. Same with the Dental Floss. I had an overage of .22 cents for those 4 items. Then I bought hair dye that also was on sale at WAGS and had a $2 off coupon in the paper this last weekend. I also had a $1 and $2.50 rewards coupons that were from a transaction I did earlier in the day. I paid OOP 3.14 on that transaction and saved 23.28.

My deals today at the Grocery store were as follows:
Fiber One cottage cheese 2.89x2=5.78-$4 in coupons paid 1.78 for both
Robitussin 3.98-$2=1.98
Atkins bars 2 for 9 - $4 in coupons paid 5 bucks for both boxes (1 box is regularly 7.09)
Crescent rolls bought 4 at 2.25=9 bucks-$4 in coupons 5 bucks for all 4 tubes (made them 1.25 a piece)
Dunkin Donuts coffee each 7.05x2=14.10-$4 in coupons, paid 10.10 for 2
Cinnamon rolls bought 6 total 15.98-$6 in coupons made them 9.98 for 6 (made them 1.66 a piece).

So that was my trips today. Some days I can get stuff for free or really really cheap. The most expensive today was the ground Turkey, it is 6.99 a package and I did have a coupon for $1 off 2 and I did use that today as well.

Total savings today 90.18

1-2-10

Today was an ok day :) We took our oldest (who turned 9 today) to Target to get some gifts. We had no idea what he wanted so we said you have 100 dollars to spend get what you want. He didn't do bad.

I had a bunch of coupons to use, I got
4 Glade candle holders--2.99 - 1.50 coupon each (these make great gifts paired with the refill candles, so I buy when I can)
I also had a buy 1 candle holder get a refill free, so that was 2.99 off
I also had a 2.00 off 2 refills
I had a buy 2 get 1 free coupon for ziploc bags and a 1 off 2, used both
I also bought some storage bowls, I had coupons for those too
Forcer flex bags on TPC (temporary price cut) for 5.99 and 1 off coupon, plus a mq (manufacturer coupon) for .55
I had a buy a bag of Beneful get a wet beneful free. Bag of Beneful was 4.45 and the free was 1.49

I also bought some storage bins for the kids for their art projects that they always want to keep, so those will go up in their rooms. Plus we bought some storage cubes for all their shoes and hats and gloves, so we know where they are. I will post when I get home today as the bins are on sale today, so I will get some money back for a price adjustment, I just don't know how much.

The total today was 183.37 and the savings was 70.45

I had my discount and also an extra 10% from the pharmacy rewards program I am enrolled in. If you have a Target visa or the Target check card you can enroll in t his program. If you get prescriptions each month the pharmacy at Target is great and you can enroll in the program, for every 10 scripts you fill you get an extra 10%coupon.

1-1-10 part 2

Many of you have asked how I save. Well there are lots of things I do. First I frequent all sorts of coupon web sites. I like www.coupons.com, www.smartsource.com and www.redplum.com. Next comes sites like betty crocker and Pillsbury, they have coupons on their sites as well. Also don't forget about www.target.com (on the bottm of the site a little link titled grocery coupons takes you to coupons you can print). Some are Target store coupons, and others are Manufacturer coupons.

Next comes www.afullcup.com (my screen name is hnavarre7 if you decide to sign up--it is free to join). This web site has tons of message boards dedicated to specific stores and the savings that these women get when shopping.

Another place I like is www.southernsavers.com This site has a lot of store information for stores in the south, but each day an e-mail gets delivered to me and some days there are links for free products and each week they have an early peek at some of the ads for the week, such as Walgreen's and CVS and Target.

Another one of my goals this year is to attempt to get tons of stuff for free or very very cheap, like shampoo, soap, conditioner and laundry detergent. A lot of it I don't use as we have sensitive skin, but there are all sorts of places that need those types of products and I would love to help out--especially if I was getting it for free.

So go ahead and ask me questions or just tell me about your savings.

If you find a web site tell me about it, perhaps I would like it as well.

Oh also there is a magazine you can order called All You. I have not gotten my copy yet, but I hear there are lots of coupons in it, and I figure if I can save a few bucks each month then it was worth it.

This is my last post today promise. If I have more I will save it for tomorrow.

Heather :)

1-1-10

Day 1--Welcome everyone to my 2010 challenge. Last year I read some great blogs about women challenging themselves to save money on the things they bought. That got me thinking about what I could save. I met a nice lady while at work and she talked to me all about coupons. I then discovered a love for coupons. Ones in the paper, ones on the internet, ones companies would send to me--all sorts of coupons. I realized very quickly how fun it is to search for them, print them and then save.

It is my goal this year to track my savings at every store I go to (such as Walgreen's, CVS, Target and the grocery stores). And of course to save as much as I can each time I shop. I plan to do this through coupons, sales, rewards back, gift cards back----all those fun things.

Most of you know I am a wife and a mother of 3 great kids, we have 2 small dogs and 4 rats. I LOVE my life and wouldn't have it any other way. Between my husband and I we work 3 jobs outside the home and both of us work very hard in and around the home. We have a crazy schedule and it doesn't leave much time for shopping, but I make it work.

So, please follow along--share great sales, tips for saving money or send me or give me your coupons that you won't use. I can put them to good use, and also pass them on to some others I know who use them as well.

Thank you all and I can't wait to share my success with all of you!

Heather :)
