6-16-2010 Trip 1

Due to some crazy schedules today I have to make a couple trips to the grocery store. Trip 1 wasn't bad, I could have split into 2 orders, but I only had brought 5coupons. Oh and I should mention I hada 4 kids with me today, it was an ok trip because it was short, any longer and it would have turned bad fast.

So here goes:

First I will list FREE items, they were all buy 1 get 1 free, but still free.....

Box of Kraft cheesy explosion
Can of Campbells Tomato soup
Box of Entemans donuts
4pk bakery muffins
Loaf of bread

So I bought 1 of each of those and
2 boxes townhouse crackers 2/$5 plus $2 doubled coupon made then 2/$3
2 boxes 8ct pop tarts 1.89 each 3.78 and a $2 doubled coupon made it 1.78 for both
1 box graham crackers 3.19
1 bag marshmallows 2.09
1 6pk chocolate bars 3.00 I had a coupon buy all 3 and get $1 off, mine doubled for $2 off, not a great deal, but now we can have smores.
1 pk Ritz Crackerfuls 3.35 made it 1.35 after a doubled coupon
2 pks hotdogs 1 was 4.29 and the other 3.19, I had a $1 coupon off 2, made it $5.48 for both, again not a great deal but we needed hot dogs.

Total spent: 35.26
Total saved: 29.31

I will have more later, I have about 17 more coupons. I will update afterwards.

New cascade complete

I bought this yesterday on an impulse buy. I am happy with the detergent I have but I was curious about this. SO I came home unloaded the clean dishes and loaded dirty ones, one bowl had already been washed through the dishwasher and was still caked with stuff. Over 24 hours of course. I put it in anyway just as it was. It came out dirty but way less then what it went in. I took my handy dandy scraper I have and it came off so easy, hardly any scraping needed.

I would buy this again. I would prefer I had coupons for it, but for $4.59 and you get 18 washes, I don't think it was that bad.

Just my product plug for the day :)

Happy St. Patrick's day! I am Irish (well a quarter anyway) and I am NOT wearing green. I have no green and I don't look good in green, so it is black for me today, but I am using a green cup to drink out of ;)

Today at the grocery store was fun. This past weekend the store I shop at had a booklet in the Sunday paper full of coupons. All the items were on sale and then more on sale with coupons. I bought quite a few of them. I don't think I had any double coupons, like store coupon brought it down to 75 cents and then another 25 off. But I did manage some good sales. I will certainly tell you about them. Some are very exciting!

2 prices in the ad were wrong, they had advertised bread B1G1 and Ragu B1G1, but that was not the case. I still got bread for 1.68 and Ragu for .98.

Target 3-12

While all the kids were at school today I decided to venture to Target. A wonderful thing for me to go alone, I love the peace of shopping leisurely and at a time where the store isn't all that busy yet.

First I had 2 coupons for food ave, so I went and bought a milk and a box of cookies, saved .88 spent 1.10, and then I bought a big cookie and spent .33 and saved .69

Then came my shopping trip. I have to take at least 1 thing back today so my totals will actually be a bit different.

I had a $10 giftcard that I got for having my new prescription filled (I think I have gotten at least $150 in the past 18 months--it works for me).

Today I bought everything for Easter and also a few clearance things for birthday gifts. I also got preschool child a new swimsuit because we are going to a waterpark in the next couple of weeks and the ones from last year don't fit her.

I had 3 coupons and my extra 10% from my pharmacy rewards (don't know what this is and want to know? Ask me)

I spent 101.33 and saved 47.35

I do have to return at least 1 thing and perhaps more once my husband and I go through the Easter stuff.

I will update as the totals change.

Pick N Save Wednesday 3-10

Today was a fun trip. I didn't have a lot of coupons, but I did have a lot of groceries.

Bathroom

So my husband and I took on a little project. Redoing a bathroom, not just any bathroom the 1 and only bathroom that has a shower. Don't worry we haven't taken the shower out yet so we can still get clean :)

So far we have knocked down a small wall, painted the existing cabinet and taken out the counter and sink. My darling husband is just about finished (I hope) with the electricity and then we can move on. Once the electrical stuff is done, I can finish painting the cabinet and he can move on to the painting, the walls and ceiling need to be done, currntly they are green, we are making them white.

Once that is done we will install the new counter and new sink. Then we plan to move on to the toilet and then on to the removal of the 2nd sink and figuring out what to put there now. After that we move on to the tile portion, we need to rip down old tile, re-drywall and then put up new tile, it should be fun. Once that is done we will move on to refinishing the tub.

After that I think we will be done......But as you know with any re-do it is never really done when you think it is.

Home Depot is our friend right now for all the little things we seem to always need in the middle of something.

Once we are done I will add up what we spent, I am not going to add that into the total as this is not necessary to our survival rather it is a chance to improve the value of our home a little with out having to spend thousands.

Swagbucks

I am sure by now everyone has heard of Swagbucks. If you haven't then you should keep reading.

Swagbucks is a search engine powered by google. You can win virtual bucks that add up and you then can shop at the swag store. It only costs 450 swag bucks for a $5 Amazon giftcard. Your points add up several ways, first by using a swagbucks toolbar, there are several different ones and you use that to search, second just by having a toolbar installed you can randomly just earn them, and finally by codes that they put out, sometimes they are ones you search for, others are a fun code that you put together to get the word.

I have over 1800 swagbucks and I win everyday at least once.

If you would like to sign up check it out, put me as the person who referred you.

www.swagbucks.com It is cool.

3-3-10

So last week was a crappy trip but today was ROCKIN'! It was actually double double day, which of course means that you can double up to 10 $1 coupons on an order of 25 or more. I did not know that for my 1st order, but everything worked out fine anyway.

A little tip thrown in here: toothpaste and toothbrushes are something that you should be able to get for free or at least almost free. When you find a good deal and you can get more then one stock up, toothbrushes and toothpaste don't go bad. Plus if you find you have way way too much, shelters will always welcome the extras.

One thing I am on the lookout for as well is cheap or free dog food, and today I found some and it is in transaction three :)

A couple extras I know about

I also have a few things I do that can yield you free stuff.

I bank with PNC Formally National City, and they have a points program for your debit card and such. I just redeemed my points for a $100 visa giftcard and 2-$25 Target gift cards.

Also on the web there is a web site www.swagbucks.com and if you use them to search for things on the web you can win swagbucks and then you can redeem those for things as well. I had been using it a while back and had gotten 97 swagbucks, I just started using it again and I am up to 118. You can get things like giftcards as well, or you can search using your favorite bands and you can also use the SB for special items in their store, like say you used Nickleback, you may be able to redeem your SB for a signed CD or a signed poster.

So these are just a few things that may be able to help you, if your bank doesn't have points, look for a bank that does, often times too banks will give you money when you switch to them and open up a checking account with direct deposit or things like that.

I like National City now PNC, the workers know me there and they are polite.

If you don't want to switch banks then try the swagbucks route, it takes a while to save up but it is a search engine just like google, plus you can win SB and get free stuff :) Who doesn't like FREE?

1-18-2010 update

Today was a quick run to the grocery store. Pick N Save had a 2 day sale flier and in the flier was mac and cheese (with card and coupon) for .39 a box. Paid 1.56, saved 3.04.

Last week the toys at my Target went 75%, so on my break I just had to check them out. I spent about 26 for 3 items. I figured out that all 3 would have been around 100 so I saved about 74 bucks.

Then Saturday we had a pair of pants to return that Paul had gotten for Christmas (that didn't fit) and he couldn't find one that did, so we used the credit to get some clothes for the kids. We ended up with 4 pairs of gloves, 2 scarves, 1 hat, 2 shirts for V, 1 pj pant for V, 1 pj pant for D, 1 zip sweatshirt for D, 1 pair of sweat pants for D, 1 pair of pj pants for J and 3 shirts for J. All of this would have been around $255 full price, but after the exchange and an extra $20 card that came with the original jeans, I spent $2.20. YEP TWO dollars and twenty cents. All of the clothes were half off and then half off that price.

Ok with that here is the savings as of 1-18:

Spent YTD: $450.37
Savings YTD: $634.62

We were so so lucky to have come across the savings at the clothing store, and we were lucky to have had that credit. But the kids always need more clothes and you can't beat a hat for 1.99 for a pair of nice gloves for 1.98 :)

1-6-10

Hi all!

I didn't post this yesterday but yesterday was Heart day, for anyone who knows me, yesterday 1-5 was the day my dad got his new heart. So yesterday was the 1 year mark from when he got it. I will never forget when he called me. He acted like it was just a routine call and then he said they have a heart for me and I am going in this afternoon. I was elated and scared all wrapped in one, but we had a good number day 01-05-09. We are so thankful for the gift that has been given to us, someone made a selfless decision and let their loved ones organs be donated to those in need. So my dad is here today living his life and we are so grateful.

Now onto savings.....Today I went to 2 grocery stores and 2 Walgreen's stores. Walgreen's--spent $15.79 saved $36.20
Piggly Wiggly--spent $10.98 saved .80--there were no coupons and it was a small trip.
Pick N Save--spent $103.32 saved $53.18

So at Walgreen's they had Reach total care (I think that is the name) toothbrushes that had a $2 coupon in the WAGS flier. So I paired that with the MQ from the paper that was B1G1. Same with the Dental Floss. I had an overage of .22 cents for those 4 items. Then I bought hair dye that also was on sale at WAGS and had a $2 off coupon in the paper this last weekend. I also had a $1 and $2.50 rewards coupons that were from a transaction I did earlier in the day. I paid OOP 3.14 on that transaction and saved 23.28.

My deals today at the Grocery store were as follows:
Fiber One cottage cheese 2.89x2=5.78-$4 in coupons paid 1.78 for both
Robitussin 3.98-$2=1.98
Atkins bars 2 for 9 - $4 in coupons paid 5 bucks for both boxes (1 box is regularly 7.09)
Crescent rolls bought 4 at 2.25=9 bucks-$4 in coupons 5 bucks for all 4 tubes (made them 1.25 a piece)
Dunkin Donuts coffee each 7.05x2=14.10-$4 in coupons, paid 10.10 for 2
Cinnamon rolls bought 6 total 15.98-$6 in coupons made them 9.98 for 6 (made them 1.66 a piece).

So that was my trips today. Some days I can get stuff for free or really really cheap. The most expensive today was the ground Turkey, it is 6.99 a package and I did have a coupon for $1 off 2 and I did use that today as well.

Total savings today 90.18

1-1-10 part 2

Many of you have asked how I save. Well there are lots of things I do. First I frequent all sorts of coupon web sites. I like www.coupons.com, www.smartsource.com and www.redplum.com. Next comes sites like betty crocker and Pillsbury, they have coupons on their sites as well. Also don't forget about www.target.com (on the bottm of the site a little link titled grocery coupons takes you to coupons you can print). Some are Target store coupons, and others are Manufacturer coupons.

Next comes www.afullcup.com (my screen name is hnavarre7 if you decide to sign up--it is free to join). This web site has tons of message boards dedicated to specific stores and the savings that these women get when shopping.

Another place I like is www.southernsavers.com This site has a lot of store information for stores in the south, but each day an e-mail gets delivered to me and some days there are links for free products and each week they have an early peek at some of the ads for the week, such as Walgreen's and CVS and Target.

Another one of my goals this year is to attempt to get tons of stuff for free or very very cheap, like shampoo, soap, conditioner and laundry detergent. A lot of it I don't use as we have sensitive skin, but there are all sorts of places that need those types of products and I would love to help out--especially if I was getting it for free.

So go ahead and ask me questions or just tell me about your savings.

If you find a web site tell me about it, perhaps I would like it as well.

Oh also there is a magazine you can order called All You. I have not gotten my copy yet, but I hear there are lots of coupons in it, and I figure if I can save a few bucks each month then it was worth it.

This is my last post today promise. If I have more I will save it for tomorrow.

1-1-10

Day 1--Welcome everyone to my 2010 challenge. Last year I read some great blogs about women challenging themselves to save money on the things they bought. That got me thinking about what I could save. I met a nice lady while at work and she talked to me all about coupons. I then discovered a love for coupons. Ones in the paper, ones on the internet, ones companies would send to me--all sorts of coupons. I realized very quickly how fun it is to search for them, print them and then save.

It is my goal this year to track my savings at every store I go to (such as Walgreen's, CVS, Target and the grocery stores). And of course to save as much as I can each time I shop. I plan to do this through coupons, sales, rewards back, gift cards back----all those fun things.

Most of you know I am a wife and a mother of 3 great kids, we have 2 small dogs and 4 rats. I LOVE my life and wouldn't have it any other way. Between my husband and I we work 3 jobs outside the home and both of us work very hard in and around the home. We have a crazy schedule and it doesn't leave much time for shopping, but I make it work.

So, please follow along--share great sales, tips for saving money or send me or give me your coupons that you won't use. I can put them to good use, and also pass them on to some others I know who use them as well.

Thank you all and I can't wait to share my success with all of you!

Heather :)
